May 11, 2013 Three-War Dedication Ceremony
We believe that this is the first time a Commemorative Dedication Ceremony has been organized to include all three war societies from the Revolutionary, War of 1812 and Civil War in the tri-county area. Each organization is supporting the event with re-enactors in their era uniforms, and we are working on having the cavalry, artillery and a 6-gun salute, to make this a very memorable event. Of the 22 veteran's we'll be honoring, 20 of them will be receiving their new war marker or Iron Cross (all fundraised for by the Eagle Scout project) so that they will always be recognized as a US Veteran. Two will have their Iron Crosses rededicated, and one veteran who was buried without a headstone will have his new Confederate Civil War headstone dedicated (supplied by the Veteran's Administration as part of the Eagle Scout project).
This event is in commemoration of the 150th and 200th anniversaries of the Civil War and War of 1812, and made possible because of the restoration work done by Troop 572 during Jack Craig's Eagle Scout Project. Because of the great involvement of the Boy Scouts, scouts from Troop 572 and other Loudoun troops are invited to participate in the ceremony.
Scouts who help with the restoration work or participate in the ceremony, as well as attend the camp out May 10th, will earn the Historic Trails Award.

The Markam Guards, Captain Stribling's Battery
The Markham Guards, Captain Stribling's Battery, is one of Northern Virginia's premier Civil War Artillery reenactment units. The Battery is organized as a Civil War Confederate artillery unit and, as such, its primary purpose is to promote historical preservation and increased awareness of the Civil War period (1861-1865) by educating the general public through reenactment and living history activities. The Battery seeks to preserve the heritage of the original Stribling's Battery and to honor the memory and sacrifices of all Civil War veterans – North and South. The Battery also does a Federal impression as the First Connecticut Light Artillery. All members of the Battery agree to promote an accurate impression of civil war artillery, both Confederate and Federal. Stribling's Battery participates in ceremonies, memorial observances, parades, living history displays, battle reenactments, encampments and educational presentations for schools and other civic organizations. We are a family oriented unit that values authenticity and honoring our ancestors. New recruits are always welcome as well as are seasoned veterans. Our Headquarters is located in Hume, Fauquier County, Virginia. Our members come from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and throughout Virginia.
1st Virginia Cavalry
The 1st Virginia Cavalry is a group of families and individuals who strive to relive the lives of the soldiers and civilians of the American Civil War. We portray the 1st Virginia Cavalry, both mounted on horseback and dismounted on foot, and their wives, sweethearts, and even children who struggled through that historic time. Wearing period style clothing and uniforms, carrying authentic reproductions of weapons and other equipment, and living in a camp style of the times, we enjoy the company of our friends as we seek and learn the history of that great conflict. We do not glorify war, nor dwell on the politics of that era. We acknowledge the sacrifices of thousands of brave souls, north and south, and hope to bring a greater understanding of those events to ourselves and to the visiting public who attend our reenactments.
